Abstract

In 2015, the profession of “archeologist” is an example of parity. In fact, after the first direction of archeological field works in 1950 and an absolutely residual situation until the sixties of the last century, women began progressively taking their natural place in the archeological practice. In the seventies, nearly 20% of the authorized archeologists were women. In 1990, they were 30% of the professionals in activity. In the dawn of the twenty first century, the professional group became more and consistently equal. The present paper seeks to consolidate the historical approach about this process, strongly related to the evolution of the Portuguese culture and society, from the first pioneers to the present times, when gender apparently, is no longer a question on the professional development.
