It is intended to investigate the interest of José Leite de Vasconcelos (1858-1941) in the Orient as an area or subject of research through his participation in scientific meetings, namely the International Congress of Orientalists and the Cairo Archeology Congress. The intellectual is associated with the X International Congress of Orientalists, which was supposed to be held in Lisbon in the year of 1892, publishing three essays in the framework of this meeting. These essays are analyzed, and the presence of the Orient in his work is investigated, in what form and with what relevance. Through his participation in two sessions of the Cairo Congress of Archeology in 1905 and 1909, he will try to clarify how his ethnographic and / or archaeological investigations reinforce his role as a collector of Orient fragments.
